Greetings friends and welcome to this week’s post. CTC Animal Rides has a plethora of animals that we bring with our petting zoos. One animal that we have available for your event is the alpaca. The alpaca looks like a mini llama. In fact the alpaca is actually related to the llama and our friend the camel. They are all part of what’s referred to as the Camelidae family.

Alpacas were domesticated more than 6,000 years ago. Their fleece is thick like sheep’s wool but it doesn’t have lanolin in it. That makes it hypoallergenic and it doesn’t need half of the processes that you have to give to wool to make it safe. Their fur is also flame and water resistant too. It’s a very handy critter to have around.

There are two types of alpacas: the Suri and the huacaya. The Suri grows long dreadlocks and the huayaca has a wooly dense fleece. If an alpaca and a llama mate their offspring is referred to as a huarizo. A Huarizo is valued for its longer fleece. I guess that’s a benefit of a crossbreed being larger.

When you bring CTC Animal Rides to your event, not only do you get a great animal adventure, you get an educational experience. Give us a call and book our barnyard today!
